The centerpiece of the Lutherans Invite! outreach program is multimedia resources for use in reaching the emerging generation that no longer uses printed material as the main source of information.  As technology revolutionized the way Martin Luther and the reformers communicated the gospel -- the Guttenberg press was the cutting edge of technology in the 1500's -- so the arrival of new media is changing the way we must communicate.  Lutherans Invite! offers congregations an inexpensive means for producing broadcast quality multimedia resources that can be used to encourage friend-to-friend faith-sharing and hospitality in Lutheran congregations.

 

MAKING MULTIMEDIA

Since the first day of the Lutherans Invite! program, the question has been posed:

"How can a congregaton make multimedia that will reach the generations that are so attuned to television?  That stuff is expensive to produce!"

Well-meaning, intelligent leaders have looked around and figured out that there is an explosion of multimedia on the Internet with YouTube and other self-broadcast venues cranking out content.  Anyone with a decent video camera and half an ounce of creativity can put together something that can be burnt to a DVD.  Some congregations even know broadcast professionals who can slap together something impressive that can be distributed by CD, DVD or Internet. They ask,

"What does Lutherans Invite! have to offer that we cannot do ourselves?"

The answer is -- consistent quality delivered with consistent content produced at far below market cost.

What does that mean? Through a negotiated arrangement between the Southeastern Synod Evangelism Strategy Team and a multimedia firm, congregations can participate in a uniform evangelism outreach program that has been produced and endorsed by leaders in evangelism in their synod and they will be guaranteed the delivery of a multimedia resource that is not only consistent with the Lutheran faith and witness, but is also in line with the outreach efforts of other congregations across their region.  The beauty of the Lutherans Invite! material is that it is not cookie cutter media.  It presents general information about the Lutheran faith, but does so in a highly contextualized way.
